What makes Covenant unique?

  • We offer three different Sunday morning worship services, each with their own style but united in their purpose of giving you a chance to hear the Word of God and a sermon relevant to today's life issues.
  • We are a large church but you won't get “lost in the crowd” here. Members of Covenant know each other by name and genuinely care about one another. There is a place for you here.
  • We have an exciting, innovative children's ministry housed in its own building called “The Promise Land”. More about Promise Land.

Who are Methodists and what do they believe?

The pamphlet "Questions & Answers" by Thomas S. McAnally offers an excellent starting point for learning the Methodist Tradition, contact the church office and ask for a copy.

The United Methodist Church maintains an excellent Web site if you want general information on Methodism. Be sure to go to the "Beliefs" page.

Where are you located?

We are located at 8350 Walnut Grove Road in Cordova, Tennessee (east Shelby County). Detailed directions can be found here. A map of our campus is located here.

What will the Sunday worship service be like?

That depends on the service you attend. The 8:30 "Early Informal" service is more intimate and less formal, but with the same sermon and similar music style as the more formal 11:00 "Traditional" service. Both of these services take place in Covenant’s Sanctuary.

The 10:50 Crosswalk service has all of the visual and upbeat elements of modern contemporary worship, and takes place in Covenant’s Spirit Center. Each service is different, yet each offers the opportunity to connect with others and plug into the life God has designed for you.

Do I have to be a church member to take Communion?

The United Methodist tradition is an "Open Communion." This means that communion is available to any and all who wish to share in God's grace.

Communion services are held during the 8:30 and 11:00 worship services on the first Sunday of every month. The Crosswalk at 10:50 offers either communion or a baptism every week.

What should I wear to Sunday Worship?

Whatever you are comfortable wearing. At each service you will see a variety of clothing styles. We believe it is more important to focus on worship, not clothing.

How long are worship services?

Worship services usually last about an hour, however the 8:30 a.m. service lasts about 45 minutes.

Are there things for my child to do during worship services?

All children are invited to attend the various services with their parents. During the service our children’s ministry provides an exciting experience for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary ages. This allows you to get the most from your experience at Covenant while your child has a great time in a safe, friendly kid-centered environment.

During all services, our nursery is available for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. And, during the 8:30 and 11:00 worship services, after our "Moments with Children" segment, children in grades kindergarten through fourth are invited to head over to Children's Church in the The Promise Land for the remainder of the hour. While there, they have their own service of singing, Bible stories, skits, and games. There are two designated Children’s Church leaders who escort all children safely to The Promise Land each Sunday.

If you have a teenager, they are invited to attend the service with you. Many of our youth often sit together and would welcome having your teenager join them. There are also youth activities for them on Sunday and Wednesday nights. More about our Student ministry.

What is The Promise Land?

The Promise Land is Covenant's unique children's building. Designed with children in mind, its inspiring "Holy Land" theme invites children into 6 creative learning environments. For more information and a tour, view the Promise Land page.

What is Safe Sanctuary?

The objective of our Safe Sanctuary policy is to ensure a safe, secure Christian atmosphere for all children and students during Covenant-sponsored events and worship services. More information and a copy of our policy can be found here.
