Evangelism

Evangelism-Handshake At the close of his ministry, Jesus gave us the “Great Commission.” He said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20).

In Evangelism, our job is to get in sync with God’s movement of grace in the world. We see that movement in the earliest Christian community, as reflected in Acts 1:8… “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” In Evangelism, we are sharing the gospel in word and deed, following the Spirit’s lead.

At Covenant, we consider evangelism simply as sharing the love of Christ through both our actions and our words as a faith community.

Our evangelism efforts entail a few simple but important actions: communicating with our community; inviting you to worship with us; welcoming you as a fellow worshiper rather than as a guest or visitor; thanking you for worshipping with us; and finally, providing a “tried and true” path toward Christian commitment and genuine Christian living.

Simply put, we have found that we can only fulfill the great commission (to spread the word of Jesus Christ), by living the great command (to love your neighbor as yourself).
