Scouts

The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness.

Membership and Support:

Boy Scout Troop 332 is actively supported by the parents of the scouts, the United Methodist Men's Club and Covenant United Methodist Church. Boys can join the program as early as age 11 and transition to adult leadership roles at 18 years of age. Boys learn a variety of skills in the program from outdoor events such as camping, cooking, swimming, forestry and fire safety to nuclear energy, citizenship, aviation, computer skills and first aid. The youth in the program build the annual calendar of events and mentor younger scouts.

Meetings and Activities:

Weekly meetings are held each Monday at 6:30 p.m. in The Spirit Center of Smith Covenant Center. There are also special monthly activities such as water skiing, snow skiing, spelunking (caving), hiking, fishing, canoeing, white water rafting, and camping. We have camped in many states including Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Colorado, Missouri, Alabama and Georgia. Some of our other notable scouting adventures include a visit to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, a visit to the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Florida, deep sea fishing in Biloxi, Mississippi, and sailing in a schooner in the Gulf of Mexico.
